New efficacy of nitrogen-free bisphosphonates expected for use in the field of oral surgery!
Bisphosphonates (BP) have a bone resorption inhibitory effect by suppressing the function of osteoclasts and are used as drugs for diseases such as osteoporosis. However, side effects such as bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) have also been reported, posing challenges. There are very few reports of BRONJ associated with the use of non-nitrogen-containing BPs (Literature 1), but their bone formation inhibitory effect is lower compared to nitrogen-containing BPs. The present invention relates to a treatment for diseases such as osteoporosis, based on the unexpected confirmation of a bone formation promoting effect of Disodium dihydrogen-4-[(methylthio) phenylthio] methanebisphosphonate (MPMBP), which is a type of non-nitrogen-containing BP.
